  • Dry well between your toes
  • Avoid putting lotion between toes
  • Use lotion to keep skin moisturized
  • Do not peel or rip dry skin off
  • Do not use a pumis stone more than once a week
  • Wear properly fitted shoes
  • Shoes should have a firm sole and soft upper

  • Wear properly fitted socks, or stockings
  • Have your feet measured very often, both the length and width
  • Buy at the end of the day when your feet have swelled slightly
  • Walk around in the shoes to see how they really feel
  • Try on both shoes since one foot is often larger than the other  Always buy for the larger foot
  • Choose shoes that are comfortable immediately.  Don’t expect shoes to stretch
  • Make sure the ball of the foot fits comfortably into the widest part of the shoe
  • Stand during shoe fitting and make sure there is about a half–inch of room between the tip of your longest toe and the shoe tip
  • Make sure the heel fits well with little or no slippage
  • Socks serve different needs
  • Cotton socks retain moisture the best
  • Cotton – wool – acrylic
  • Acrylic socks are better than cotton in preventing the frequency and severity of friction blisters in running athletes
  • Trim or file your toenails straight across
  • Never cut corns or calluses with a razor
  • Bathe your feet daily in lukewarm water
  • Inspect your feet every day or have someone do this for you
